Book Trailer for Eric Carle's newest title: The Artist Who Drew Blue Horses

Eric Carle's tribute to the creative life
"I am an artist..." begins Eric Carle's vibrant tribute to the creative life. And just like an imaginative child, this is one artist who paints the world as he sees it-a red crocodile, an orange elephant, a purple fox, a black polar bear (!) and a wonderful polka-dotted donkey. Filled with some of the most magnificently colourful animals of Eric Carle's career, this is a book that celebrates imagination and the artist within us all."

Ethical participation in new media environments
For more information, download the Introduction to Our Space [pdf], FAQ [pdf], and Road Map [pdf]. All curricular units and lessons are free and available for download as well. The full casebook [pdf - 133MB] can also be downloaded from the site.

"For most young people today, engagement with new digital media is a routine aspect of life. Through computers, mobile phones, and other handheld devices, youth can blog, tweet, participate in social networks like Facebook, play massive multi-player games, use online information sources, and share videos, stories, music, and art they've created. Important skills and knowledge can be gained from such activities, but there are also risks. For example, young people may only rarely consider what it means to be an ethical, socially responsible "citizen" on the Internet.

Our Space is a set of curricular materials designed to encourage high school students to reflect on the ethical dimensions of their participation in new media environments. Through role-playing activities and reflective exercises, students are asked to consider the ethical responsibilities of other people, and whether and how they behave ethically themselves online. These issues are raised in relation to five core themes that are highly relevant online: identity, privacy, authorship and ownership, credibility, and participation."

The Power of Open - Using Creative Commons Licensing

Open content, art and ideas to the world
The Power of Open collects the stories of creators who use Creative Commons to share their works. Some are like ProPublica, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative news organization that uses CC while partnering with the world's largest media companies. Others like nomadic filmmaker Vincent Moon use CC licensing as an essential element of a lifestyle of openness in pursuit of creativity. The breadth of uses is as great as the creativity of the individuals and organizations choosing to open their content, art and ideas to the rest of the world.
